The episode begins at Mr. Ratburn's classroom where Mr. Ratburn announces the poetry contest at the library and that Fern signed up. He also announces that the judge will be Jack Prelutsky. Later at lunch, Binky and Rattles made fun of Fern, who got back at them. Buster cheered for her, only for Binky to scowl at him. Later, after school, Binky and the kids discuss that they can write better poems, with Fern overhearing. Fern tells them they can't, but they protest, which leads to Fern yelling "QUIET!" Fern then places them in a bet that anyone who doesn't win has to join the Poetry Club for a whole year. They agree. Later, Arthur and Buster were trying to find a poem, but to no avail. Even D.W. didn't help much. Plus the Brain and Muffy were finished with their poems. The next day, Arthur stopped by Fern' house on the way to school. Later at the library after Jack's poem, it was time for the contest. Everyone read their poems while Arthur is in a rush. Arthur arrives in time to read his poem. After that, everyone was made winners, and the episode finishes with Jack reading another poem.
