Here We Come a'Wassailing

From Arthur Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

"Here We Come a'Wassailing" is a traditional, if somewhat obscure, Christmas carol. The term "wassailing" refers to the practice of traveling from door-to-door singing Christmas carols and is referential of an archaic tradition of charitable neighborly giving distinct from begging.[1] The song is track 5 on the album Arthur's Perfect Christmas and is performed by Arthur, Binky and Buster. The song generally matches the lyrics of the original, but with certain kid-friendly substitutions such as "glass of milk" instead of "glass of beer."

Lyrics[edit]

Arthur, Binky and Buster

Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing

Here we come a 'Wassailing
Among the leaves so green
Here come a'wandering, so fair to be seen

Love and joy come to you
And to you our wassail too
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year

Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing

Arthur

We are not daily beggars
Who beg from door to door

Buster

But we are neighbors' children
Whom you have seen before

Arthur, Binky and Buster

Love and joy come to you
And to you our wassail too
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year

Binky

Call up the butler of this house
Put on his golden ring

Buster

Let him bring us up a glass of milk and
Better shall we sing

Arthur, Binky and Buster

Love and joy come to you
And to you our wassail too
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year

Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing

Here we come a 'Wassailing
Among the leaves so green
Here come a'wandering, so fair to be seen

Love and joy come to you
And to you our wassail too
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year

Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail, Wassailing
Wassail!
