Arthur's New Puppy is the eighteenth book in the Arthur Adventure series and is the direct sequel to Arthur's Pet Business. It was written and illustrated by Marc Brown and published by Little, Brown and Company on October 1, 1993. It became adapted into the TV series as the first half of Episode 8 in Season 1.

- Although Pal previously appeared in Arthur's Pet Business, Arthur names the dog in this book.
- Arthur's friend Buster states that he once had a puppy, but his mother sent the dog to a farm, and Francine states that she had a cousin who had a puppy that was too difficult to train.
- For the 2019-2020 coronavirus lockdown, a video of Marc Brown reading Arthur's New Puppy was released on the Arthur and PBS Kids Facebook pages. The video can be viewed here
Differences from the episode[edit]
- In the book Buster mentions that his parents sold his puppy to a farm and Francine mentions that her cousin's puppy ran away from home while in the episode Francine says that her cousin's puppy was sold to a farm and Buster says his mom gave his puppy away while he was at school.
- In the book, the one command Pal doesn't like is "walk time"; in the episode, it is "sit."
- In the book, the family spends a large portion of the story searching for the garage key; this is not as frequent in the episode.
