Arthur and the Baby, originally published as Arthur's Baby, is the 12th book in the Arthur Adventure series. It was written and illustrated by Marc Brown, and published by Little, Brown and Company, on November 30, 1987.

It became adapted into episode 11 of Season 1 with the same title, plus its direct sequel D.W.'s Baby.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is Kate's (who's an additional member of the Read family) first appearance. Even though this is her introduction in the series, many of the earlier books were even sequels to this book, and Kate wasn't a character until this book.
  • In 2011, the title was changed to Arthur and the Baby. This is due to the fact that Kate is Arthur's sister while a person's baby literally refers to her/his own kids.

Goofs[edit]

  • In the living room scene where D.W. diapers her dolls for practice, the stairs were next to the living room door like the previous books; but in the later scenes, the stairs were moved over to the far back as a redesign in the TV series.
  • When David and Jane Read said that they're waiting 6 months for the baby to arrive, Arthur was wearing glasses, even though the events of Arthur's Eyes seem to take place only approximately a month and a half before Kate was born.
