Play it Again, D.W. is the second half of the 6th episode of Season 2 of the animated children's series Arthur. Together with Buster Baxter, Cat Saver, it first aired on October 27th, 1997.

Premise

D.W. is still playing her "Crazy Bus" CD (since "Buster Baxter, Cat Saver") and Arthur is already annoyed by it. When the CD goes missing, D.W. and the others pin the blame on Arthur.

Plot

D.W. is still playing her "Crazy Bus" CD (since the previous episode) and Arthur is getting annoyed by it. She plays her CD constantly and brings the Radio with her, everywhere she goes, and when she's not listening to it she's humming it and playing with its merchandise.

At one point, Arthur recorded D.W. as having played the song a whopping 532 times in a single week! Unfortunately, neither his friends nor his parents seem to find it as being too much, annoying him even more. D.W. then surprises Arthur with four tickets to "Crazy Bus Live".

Which he has to attend against his will. Arthur is embarrassed to be there and wears a silly disguise under the alias "Steve" to avoid being seen. He then finds Buster enjoying the show, much to his horror. Arthur has a nightmare where all of his friends and family are riding and singing Crazy Bus, and he desperately tries to find a way off.

One night while Arthur is doing his homework, D.W. plays the song yet again and at full volume. Arthur was so frustrated, that he threatens to wreck the "Crazy Bus" CD, scaring D.W. and prompting her to tell on Arthur while her parents are searching for music to listen to at a high school reunion.

They send Arthur to his room as a punishment and he got banned from watching TV until he finally got a break. But then, a little later, D.W. has a panic attack and flips out when she discovers that her CD is missing.

She accuses Arthur of stealing it, but he denies it. D.W. goes so far to bring up the snowball incident again, which he immediately shoots down. D.W. begins to harass Arthur endlessly as she is convinced he is the thief, and Arthur is unable to prove his innocence.

The next afternoon, Arthur goes on a rowboat with Buster and Francine at the Mill Creek River while his family is out on a picnic. Arthur discusses the "Crazy Bus" CD incident with his two friends, and says he doesn't have the CD, but Francine doesn't believe him.

Buster claims that an ancient race of squids took it to their hidden grotto beneath the sea. Arthur imagines squids (who actually live in the ocean) at the bottom of the river to whether or not they have the CD, and sing the "Crazy Bus" song.

Later that week, Francine's sister Catherine is asked to babysit for the kids while their parents go to their reunion, and all the while D.W. spies on Arthur, trying to catch him with the CD even accidentally mistaking a computer game that Arthur borrowed from the Brain for her CD.

She goes so far as to destroy Arthur's room in an attempt to find it. Arthur loses his patience, forcing Catherine to improvise. She ties tape down in the den and forces the two kids to opposite sides of the room.

When Arthur tries to retrieve his jacket from D.W.'s side, she says her CD is in the jacket and she tries to take it, and end up arguing over. After Arthur calls D.W.'s CD "Stupid Bus", D.W. retaliates him by saying that "Stupid Bus" is a lame puppet show.

At the reunion, Mr. Read puts on the music for his friends, only to discover that he accidentally took Crazy Bus! Their mom calls the house and reveals that they took the CD by accident, not Arthur.

D.W. stops fighting and takes off the tape, but Arthur is furious that the CD was found the whole time! That night, they give the CD back to her, but she doesn't want to listen to it anymore, much to Arthur's surprise.

Instead, she watches a Crazy Bus tape Grandma Thora gave her! Arthur then realizes that he spoke too soon. He runs off in frustration once again, and shouts for his mom. Then the episode ends.

Trivia

Notes

  • D.W. first played "Crazy Bus" during Buster Baxter, Cat Saver. Arthur gave her headphones so she could play it without bothering Arthur, but by this episode she ended up breaking them.
  • The snowball incident is brought up again in this episode.
  • When it aired on UncoTV, there is a video problem where it freezes for ten seconds, then switched to where it was for unknown reasons.
  • D.W. played Crazy Bus over 500 times during the course of a single week. Strangely, her own parents don't seem to recognize this as a sign of an unhealthy obsession with the music, and are of little help to Arthur throughout the episode. His complaints about the song are quite justified, seeing as D.W. managed to distract him from doing anything important because she can't stop playing.
    • The same goes for D.W.'s constant rubbing in of the fact that she beat Arthur at checkers once and made a big deal out of it through the seasons in front of her parents and Arthur's friends; once again, they don't seem to recognize this as an unhealthy habit.
  • David and Jane's graduating class is said to be 1978 as seen on the cover of the jewel case featuring songs they danced to in high school. However, the series has no specific timeline.
  • After D.W looks out the window when her parents leave, when she says, "Good, they're gone," she says they're very fast, sounding like she's saying "Good God!'
  • When D.W. said, Yeah, mama!' when she beat Arthur at checkers, if you can hear while watching the ending credits (techno remix, that is) you can hear D.W. saying the same quote.

Goofs

  • While Catherine is doing homework, she was first seen writing with her left hand; but in the next few seconds, she switches to her right hand, although she is normally right-handed like her sister Francine. She could be ambidextrous.
  • After Arthur retrieves his jacket from D.W., the closet door closes by itself when he lands in there, despite that it only works if air is flying through the room, but there was no air flying through the room.
  • Kate didn't speak normally until in The Secret Life of Dogs and Babies in Season 6, although it was Arthur's weird imagination.
  • When Buster is telling Arthur that he likes Crazy bus, Arthur's disguise trunk goes up without the use of anything, and considering that Arthur's nose is flat, this would be impossible in reality. In the same scenario, when Buster is telling Arthur to come to his house, arthur has no visible mouth.
