Summary
CBBC
Sue Ellen runs into a problem her artistic vision can't solve.[5]
RadioTimes
Sue Ellen is dismissive about maths until she runs into a problem her artistic vision cannot solve.[6]
Plot
When Sue Ellen is asked to do a problem during math class, she excuses herself. In the hallway, she explains to the viewers that she isn't a math person. Her family doesn't use math either, not even when following recipes or hanging pictures. She finishes with, "The Armstrongs get along just fine without using math." She comes back to class in time for the next problem.
In art class, the students are assigned to paint and hang their art in a spot around the school. Sue Ellen decides to paint a nature-themed work in front of the water fountain.
While shopping for supplies, Prunella points out that Sue Ellen can only spend $15. Sue Ellen refuses to calculate the cost, and says that she'll just put something back if she has too much.
Prunella tries to prove that Sue Ellen is using math without realizing it. However, most of her reasoning is wrong, such as when she assumes that Sue Ellen mixed paint to make orange when it came from a tube.
The next day, Muffy informs Sue Ellen that the water fountain was moved because one of the pipes leaked. The space for Sue Ellen's painting is now too small, and she doesn't want to cut off any of the animals she drew.
In the art room, Prunella measures the new spot and Sue Ellen's art. She shows her that she can cut her painting in the middle instead of trimming off the animals.
Sue Ellen signs her painting with "For Prunella Deegan, who taught me we are all math people."
