"Postcards from Binky" is the second half of the sixth episode in the nineteenth season of Arthur.

Summary[edit]

When Binky's grandparents miss his big soccer game, he plans to film a video reenactment of it.

Plot[edit]

Arthur talks about communication, recalling an incident in which he and Buster tried talking in semaphore. He describes that his favorite method of communication is physical letters over email, comparing it to getting a present. Binky says that he would rather "do it [his] way" and Arthur sighs, saying that he did not think he could convince Binky.

Postcards from Binky

Binky struggles with writing an email to his grandparents. He explains that his family came over to see him talk about a soccer game, except for his grandparents, who lived too far away. Binky finds that writing an email is not as exciting, and Buster suggests filming a video postcard. Binky likes the idea, but questions how he will get a video of something that happened in the past. Muffy suggests using actors to re-do it, showing a video she filmed about a head lice incident.

After borrowing a video camera from his mother, Binky, goes out to the soccer field with Buster, Arthur, George, and Muffy. They find Binky's instructions, such as moving in slow motion and acting amazed over Binky showing up to win the game, boring and eventually leave. As George is the only one to not leave, Binky has him help with the next part of his video postcard.

Next, Binky films a fishing trip he took after the game. He borrows Thelma from Arthur and gets permission to use Muffy's pool, and records it. In Binky's re-enactment, he uses Wally and a plastic green army man as stand-ins for himself, and narrates that he got swallowed by a fish but escaped by tickling it from the inside. He shows it to his friends and they enjoy it, except Sue Ellen, who criticizes it for being exaggerated and inaccurate.

At home, Binky writes an email to his grandparents. He describes the soccer game and fishing trip with descriptive language based on his video postcard, which he then describes as a movie with his friends that he sends to them.

Trivia[edit]

  • 4th wall Break: The title of the episode is a reference to the Arthur spinoff series "Postcards from Buster" that aired on PBS Kids Go!
  • Arthur's Letter: Dear Buster, Hi how are you? I am good I had fun playing aliens with you and Brain Do you think we could play aliens again? Do you think we can make a spaceship? What should we build our spaceship with? I have a big box and pipecleaners. I drew me as an alien. COOL! See you at school tomorrow.
  • Timeline:
