"Take a Hike, Molly" is the second half of the fifth episode in the twenty-first season of Arthur.

Summary[edit]

When the Tough Customers go on a hike in the woods, Molly makes a few mistakes and has to apologize... but she refuses to!

Plot[edit]

Binky, Slink, and Rattles are all telling Molly to say sorry. Binky then tells the viewers about how there's always that one thing that people won't say. He then talks about Muffy turning down a sale on designer dresses.

And Francine being happy about losing the game and saying that the thing that's important is that they had fun. Finally, he talks about Buster thinking that he saw a weather balloon through a telescope instead of a UFO. They all chant "Say it" to Molly.

Take a Hike, Molly

The episode starts off with Slink telling Binky and Rattles about a guy surviving for 3 whole days in The Backyard Survivor show at the Tower of Pain. Binky and Rattles are confused about why he did it in the first place. Molly MacDonald then comes and says that they should hike to the Lookout Mountain Hotel, and hands them a brochure.

Molly mentions that it burned down in 1933. Rattles wonders if the map's still accurate. Molly says that her grandma gave it to her and she went there all the time as a kid. Slink suggests that they can film their own reality show The Hike Survivors. Binky says he's going, but Rattles is skeptical at first, but Molly convinces him to do so.

Binky is now filming Slink, who is showing the viewers how to find a good walking stick. He tries to lift a tree branch, but Rattles says that they can just use one that other hikers left behind. Molly then says they're looking for Buggy Top trail, and it has red markers. Rattles tries to find it on the directional signs, but it isn't there. Molly points at the large map by them and says there's a red trail called "Big Loop", and they probably just changed the name.

Binky wants to go to Billy's Burger Barn before they start, but Molly says they'll eat after, and she has plenty of food with her. They then leave on their hike. While walking, Rattles is startled by a rope on the ground, and Binky puts it on a branch. Molly figures out that he's scared of snakes, and soon Molly spots a red marker over a stream, which has a log path over the stream.

Rattles tries to walk over the log, but Molly says that there's a water snake. Rattles freaks out and falls into the stream. Rattles admits that he's scared of snakes, and it's why he's called Rattles. Slink says that he thought that he was named after a baby rattle, similar to how Binky was named after his pacifier. Rattles is still mad at Molly, and he walks away. They then move on.

After some time has passed, Binky wonders where all the red markers are. Molly thinks she saw one, but it's just maple leaves. Binky thinks they should go back since there's still a half hour left to get the early burger special. Molly looks at the brochure and says that the blue brochure is also on this map, and that it's a little longer. They find a blue marker, and soon they find one that is on a cave.

Slink begins to film them walking through the cave. Molly tells Slink to stop filming, but he keeps filming. Molly then grabs Slink's phone and accidentally cracks it. Slink asks Molly to say sorry, but she claims to spot a blue marker. However, the blue marker turns out to be a blue bird, and it flies away. Molly tries to find another route, but Binky gets mad and decides he's not going any further.

Molly gets the food out from her backpack. The food is apple juice, mints and trail mix. Binky notices that the trial mix has nuts in them, and wants Molly to say sorry but she protests. Binky says it's because she got Rattles wet, she broke Slink's phone and she deprived his stomach of a perfectly good burger. Molly leaves to go to the ruins.

Eventually she arrives and eats a mint, and a sip of the apple juice. She spits it out. Eventually Molly gets nervous and says she's sorry. A recorded voice of Molly saying "I'm sorry." plays over and over again. It's revealed that Slink had been filming. They all turn up, saying that they followed her, then snuck around to the back. Rattles realizes that they're lost, and Molly comes up with the idea of them watching the footage so that they can find their way back.

They find their way back by watching the footage, and then they arrive at the Burger Barn. Molly then says sorry because they didn't have root beer, so she got ginger ale. The episode ends with Molly taking a sip and then saying, "Sorry."

Characters[edit]

Trivia[edit]

  • Not counting the opening, the only characters in this episode are Molly, Binky, Rattles, and Slink.
    • This is the first episode to feature just the Tough Consumers.
  • As shown in the gallery the rough storyboard says this episode was produced in 11-26-2015.
  • Karma: Molly was excluded because she didn't say "sorry".
  • 4th wall break: The name "Tolon" is seen on a ball on "The Backyard Survivor." Tolon is the name of Marc Brown's son.
  • Running Gag: Molly not saying "sorry", then at the end, saying it too much.
  • Moral: Dont prevent yourself from saying "sorry" for your own benefits.
  • Timeline:
    • Binky is unable to eat the trail mix because of his allergy to nuts. His nut allergy is revealed in "Binky Goes Nuts," and it is mentioned again in "Too Much of a Good Thing."
    • Although the premise of this episode is that Molly has never said "sorry" to anyone, she does provide a written apology to many of her friends in "The Last Tough Customer." Maybe this episode takes place before said episode.

Cultural references[edit]

  • On "The Backyard Survivor," a volleyball with a face is shown. This is a reference to Wilson from Cast Away.
  • Rattles mentions "a cave in Mexico where snakes hang from the ceiling and eat bats." Such a cave does exist in real life, being the Cave of the Hanging Snakes. The snakes in question are yellow-red rat snakes.
