Arthur's Baby is the first-half of the 11th episode of Season 1. It first aired on November 18, 1996. It is based on the book of the same name.
Synopsis
While celebrating Kate's 1st birthday, Arthur says that he missed the days when she was a little baby. But D.W. reminds him that he didn't like Kate when she was a little baby and to remember what happened since she knows exactly what happened then.
It all started when Jane is pregnant with their new baby sister Kate. Arthur is nervous, wondering what it would be like to have a new baby in the house.
Plot Outline
They are celebrating Kate's 1st birthday and Kate puts her face in the cake. Arthur tells the viewers that babies do some dopey things, like Buster and Nigel Ratburn. Even Jane and David and even his little sister Kate is growing up and he missed the days when she was a cute little baby. But D.W. argues with Arthur and she shouted that Arthur didn't even like Kate when she was a baby. Arthur did when she was a baby an D.W. remembers exactly what happened.

Arthur and D.W. are playing a grape eating contest and D.W. ate the last grape when Arthur tries to get it. David calls Arthur and D.W. to come to them and Jane said that they are going to have a baby. While D.W. is excited about this, David told Arthur that it will take six months before the baby comes. Arthur was depressed.
Trivia
Differences from the book
- Kate's bassinet was purple; although in the book, it was white (as well as on the cover illustration).
- The videos of Arthur and D.W. as babies showed Arthur as a toddler at the age of 1 and D.W. when she was just a baby with a lot of crying. In the book, it was a photo album that showed Arthur wearing a cowboy hat and crawling at 9 months and sitting in a high chair with a bowl of food on his head and eating at the age of 1, and D.W. when she was 2 months old and when she was 5 months old.
- When D.W. diapers a load of toys, Arthur had spotted his Bionic Bunny action figure wearing a diaper (which angered him), and then he quickly took the diaper off of Bionic Bunny. In the book, the Bionic Bunny action figure wasn't featured, and D.W. was only diapering her dolls.
Notes
- Mr. Ratburn was called Emil by his mom when Arthur imagined his friends and adults as babies, but later seasons renamed him as Nigel.
- Kate was shown before, in "Arthur's Spelling Trubble."
Goofs
- David and Jane didn't really know each other until they grew up, even though it was all Arthur's imagination.
- T-shirts should never be tucked into diapers; nonetheless, this mistake continues to be done. The only character to be properly seen with the shirt hanging out of the diaper was Arthur when he was a baby.
- After Binky teases Arthur in the gym about what he might do if the new baby arrives, the next scene changes to the swimming pool scene.
- When David and Jane said that they're waiting 6 months for the baby to arrive, Arthur was wearing glasses, even though the events of "'Arthur's Eyes" appeared to take place only approximately a month and a half before Kate was born. This mistake also happened in the book.
- Arthur was supposed to take his jacket off when he went inside his house; instead he dropped it on the floor (maybe he didn't know what time to take the jacket off was).
- In the same shot described on Goof #3, the baby's diaper is the same color as his / her skin. This is a mix-up, as the colorizers had to color Buster's diaper grey because his skin's white.
- In Arthur's house, Arthur yanks the boot off of his face, but he grabs it. Then Buster goes flying with a crash, and he breaks himself.
- Buster has to go to the hospital because he's limping.
- In the scene where Arthur and D.W. go to see Kate at the hosptial, a teddy bear can be seen in one of the cribs with the other sleeping babies.
- When Jane asks Arthur to watch Kate, Kate was wearing blue pants. Few seconds later, they changed back into her regular clothes.

- D.W.: (Sing-song voice) Arthur! Come over here and I'll show you how to diaper a baby!
- Arthur: (Spots his Bionic Bunny doll) Oh, no. No! Get that diaper off my Bionic Bunny right now! (Takes the diaper off of his Bionic Bunny doll) And stop trying to turn everything into a baby!
- Jane: Forget the diapers. Come over here. I wanna show you two something.
- (Arthur and D.W. come to their mom)
- Jane: (To Arthur) You were a baby once, too, you know. (Turns on the TV)
- Arthur: Is that me?
- Jane: (Watches the home video of Arthur as a baby) Yes! You were such a cute baby!
- D.W.: Yeah! What went wrong? (Watches the home video of herself as a baby) That's me?! (Watches another home video as herself as a baby) Don't I look adorable? And I bet the new baby's gonna be just like me!
- Arthur: That's what I'm afraid of!
- (The next morning, Jane is packing her stuff in her room; then Arthur comes in)
- Arthur: What are you doing?
- Jane: I have to be ready to go to the hospital at anytime now.
- D.W.: (Coming in; to Jane, showing her a framed portrait of herself) Here's something to look at while you're in the hospital! To help you make another perfect kid!
- Jane: (Laughs and takes the picture of D.W.) I'll pack that with my other things. (Puts it in her suitcase)
