"All About D.W." is the first half of the third episode in the sixteenth season of Arthur.

Summary

When Emily gets the starring role in the preschool play, D.W. is beside herself with jealousy. She should be Little Red Riding Hood, not Tree #2! Undeterred, D.W. appoints herself as Emily's understudy (just in case!). But when the big moment arrives, can D.W. handle the spotlight?

Plot

Arthur explains to the viewers how whenever D.W. really, really wants something, there's no telling what she'll do to get it. Then, D.W. comes in to the Reads' den where Arthur is, acting out the story of Little Red Riding Hood with Grandma Thora. However, D.W. is not impressed with Arthur's performance as the woodsman, and cries so that he will agree to re-act the scene better. Arthur then says to the viewers, "See what I mean?".

All About D.W.

After the title card, Ms. Morgan announces at preschool the roles for the play, which is Little Red Riding Hood. Timmy will be the Big Bad Wolf, Tommy will be Grandma, and Emily gets the starring role as Little Red Riding Hood. D.W. gets the role of Tree #2, not even Tree #1, of which she is not happy about.

Later at home, D.W. talks to Grandma Thora and Arthur about how she wanted to have the lead role as Red Riding Hood. Arthur thinks that playing a tree won't be so bad, and he also thinks that it could be kind of fun, but D.W. disagrees. Grandma Thora then suggests that she could be Emily's understudy. D.W. asks what that is and Arthur explains than an understudy is someone that fills in if the actor gets sick or can't make it to the play.

After talking with Arthur and Grandma Thora, D.W. talks to Nadine and brainstorms ways that she could be the understudy. Nadine first considers digging a moat around Emily's house, but D.W. comes up with a better idea: there may be something Emily wants to do instead that's at the same time as the play.

At preschool the next day, D.W. tells Emily that Cat-Arctica, a play about dancing kittens on ice, is coming to Crown City on Friday, when the play will be happening. While Emily does want to go, she chooses to do the play instead. D.W. is not happy about this.

That night, D.W. is once again talking to Nadine, explaining that she had offered many other events to Emily, but she declined all of them D.W. then thinks that if she can't find anything that Emily wants, maybe there's something that Emily doesn't want.

The next day at preschool, D.W. gives Emily a paper bag mask for her to wear in case she messes up on her lines and wants to hide. Emily crumples up the bag and storms off, surprising D.W. Later, D.W. attempts to be Emily's understudy, repeating everything she is saying even though D.W. is supposed to be Tree #2, but gets in trouble with Ms. Morgan instead.

Later, at Grandma Thora's house, Grandma Thora explains to D.W. that she should let Emily enjoy her role, asking D.W. if she would like it if Emily tried to take away something she really wanted. D.W. decides that she wouldn't like that, and agrees to apologize to Emily at preschool the next day.

However, the next day at preschool, it turns out that Emily lost her voice, and D.W. gets the role of Little Red Riding Hood after all. That night, D.W. has a nightmare about Emily being the Big Bad Wolf abd D.W. ending up forgetting her lines and being given the paper bag mask.

During the play the next day at preschool, D.W. is nervous and ends up forgetting her lines. Emily, as Tree #2 instead of D.W., whispers them to her, and D.W. is able to finish the play. After the play is over, D.W. decides that next time, she'll play Tree #2, because it's easier. Everyone cheers, ending the episode.
