The Create Your Own Arthur Episode! event was a story writing contest. Children aged 5 to 8 years old were asked to submit their own original ideas for an Arthur episode. The contest was announced in March 1998 in TV Guide Magazine, and ran from March 14 to April 3, 1998. Entrants received a certificate and an Arthur bookmark for their participation.

The winning story idea was submitted by Holly Holland from Canadian, Oklahoma. Her entry was one of over 10,300 submissions. Her idea about Arthur entering a contest was the inspiration for the Season 4 episode, "The Contest," which aired on October 8, 1999. Holland is featured in the A Word from Us Kids segment following the episode.

Trivia[edit]

  • Holland was almost not qualified for the contest, because her mother failed to send in a signed release form.
  • The contest was underwritten by series corporate sponsor, Libby's Juicy Juice.
  • Five other entries, while not winning entries, were incorporated in "The Contest" as the stories that Arthur and his friends send into the Andy and Company contest. They are acknowledged at the conclusion of the episode:
    • Jared Delello of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey
    • Kiera Carry of Long Beach, New York
    • Daniel Hanson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
    • Corey Baldwin of Hartford, Michigan
    • Lauden Belongia of Kewaskum, Wisconsin
