A Subliminal Message in Arthur? You Decide..

In about a second long scene in Bitzi's Beau, Arthur and Buster are talking in the halls of Lakewood Elementary. In the right corner, just see for yourself!

Where is Elwood City? Evidence.

  • Arthur's relatives live in Ohio, but apparently Elwood City is far, far, away from Ohio. -Couldn't be Ohio.
  • It only took Arthur's family a few hours to drive to Washington D.C. --Don't know
  • Arthur's family took a plane to NYC, but drove to Washington D.C. --Don't know.
  • They spell words the Canadian way (Kilometre instead of mile.) --Suggests that location is Canadian
  • The coins seen in the series look very indentical to Canadian coins. --Sugests that location is Canadian
  • Binky had 2 bills, a 5 and a 20. The 5 was blue, but the 20 was green, like CA money. --Suggests that location is Canadian
  • Elwood City's hockey team uses the same colors as the Montreal Canadiens, and a similar type logo.
  • The dollars sort of look like Canadian bills --Suggests that location is Canadian
  • The Elwood City Grebes are basically a copy of the Boston Red Sox with anthro counterparts. --Sugests Elwood City is in Boston area
  • George walked from Crown City to Elwood City in one episode in a couple of hours. That means that Crown City and Elwood City are pretty close.
  • Crown City is probably in NYC, Baltimore, or with a chance, a city in Pennsylvania.

My conclusion is that there is a 75% chance that Elwood City is somewhere in Canada. If it's not there, then where could it be? This is a question that will never have an answer, and a very debatable topic. Feel free to add more under this line to discuss.

WHAT YEAR IS IT IN ELWOOD CITY?!?!

In Elwood City Turns 100! there is evidence that it takes place in 2003. The episode aired in 2002, making it one year ahead of regular time.

In Buster Baxter and the Letter from the Sea it states evidence that the episode takes place in the year 2012. But this episode aired in 2011.

No matter what the year is, somehow in the Arthur universe, they're always one year ahead of the real world. The characters have not aged, except some episodes they've had birthdays. Sometimes in flashbacks it shows the characters at a younger age.

I've come to the conclusion that they're always a year ahead of us.
