Soup 2 Nuts was an American animation studio originally founded as Computer Learning Connection, a educational media focused company by Tom Snyder in 1980 before being renamed to Tom Snyder Productions and later rebranded to "Soup 2 Nuts" in 2001. The studio is known for its use of the "Squigglevision" animation technique which involves continuously reusing drawn frames for a unique, kinetic looking animation. The company was acquired by the Scholastic corporation and shut down in 2015. [1]

The studio was prominently did adverts and small scale commissions in the 1990's. One of its clients was PBS, who requested adverts and branding services for its children's programming block, PTV, throughout its run from 1993 until the block rebranded to PBS Kids in 1999 with Primal Screen now largely being the provider for animated promotion since. Soup 2 Nuts notably did two station ids featuring Arthur that aired in PBS member stations. Background animations in the ids use Squigglevision and reuse animation cels from the intro[2] and Arthur's Spelling Trubble.[3]

Trivia[edit]

  • The station ID's for Arthur that feature the character include exclusive voice clips by Michael Yarmush and is only time his voice for Arthur is heard excluding Yarmush's guest star appearance in Mr Roger's Neighborhood.
  • Soup 2 Nuts is also the production company of the animated adult comedy Dr. Katz Professional Therapist. The show is parodied in the The Contest complete with Soup 2 Nuts' Squigglevision animation style.
  • Since Arthur was the block's only mainstream animated series, it is the only not to use green screen in ID's.
