Backyard[edit]

(One evening, Buster, The Brain, and Arthur have a tent camped out on Arthur's Backyard. They eat chips.)

Alan Powers: Little kids couldn't camp out like us.

Buster Baxter: They'd be too scared.

(a firefly buzzes by)

Boys: (screaming)

Arthur Read: When I was a kid, lots of things used to scare me.

Flashback[edit]

Arthur: (V.O.) Like the dark! (As a youngster, Arthur hides under his bed, but then shines a light in the distance. It's only the radiator.)

Arthur: (sighs in relief)

Backyard 2[edit]

Buster: I was scared of the dark, too, but I was more scared of Binky Barnes!

Flashback 2[edit]

(Binky Barnes, dressed up as Frankenstein, walks forward) Binky: I'd really like a piece of that cookie! Please?

Backyard 3[edit]

Buster: Well, at least I'm not scared of the dark anymore.

The Brain: I was once scared of an old movie, Navy Versus the Night Worm!

(the other boys laugh)

Buster: You were scared of that?

(boys scream again)

ARTHUR'S FIRST SLEEPOVER

Written by: Joe Fallon ---- Storyboard by Jean Lajeunesse

Binky: (V.O.) Arthur's First Sleepover.

Buster: (burping)

Arthur: (giggling)

Backyard 4[edit]

(Arthur sets up a tent in his backyard. But Pal goes under the tent)

Arthur: Pal, come out of there! Come here! Hey! No, come here! Pal, come here!

Jane: (walks out of the house wondering what's going on) Arthur, is that you?

Arthur: Yes, Mom. I'm putting my tent up.

Jane: Your sleepover isn't until Saturday! Come inside and eat breakfast.

(Pal whines)

House 1[edit]

(Arthur and his family eat breakfast in the kitchen)

David: (laughs while reading the newspaper)

Arthur: What's so funny?

David: A farmer claims he saw a spaceship over Elwood City!

D.W.: Really?

Arthur: It had a glowing light and it sounded like an intergalactic kazoo.

(D.W. looks stunned)

House 2[edit]

D.W. (holding a camera, runs into the living room): The first person to get a picture of the spaceship will get a lot of money!

Arthur: I don't believe in UFOs.

D.W.: That's because there's never been a real picture of them. (accidentally takes a picture of her face)

Elwood City Streets 1[edit]

(Arthur and The Brain play with a frisbee on the sidewalk while Muffy, Francine, and Buster walk together)

Muffy: I saw the light in the sky last night, too.

Francine: Maybe it was the spaceship.

Arthur: Hey Buster, we have to plan for my sleepover.

Buster: My Mom says I can't come, Arthur.

Arthur: What? You're my best friend! I can't have a party without you!

Buster: She's worried I'll be scared because of the spaceship.

Arthur: You've got to come. I'll ask my Mom to call your Mom.

House 3[edit]

(Jane calls Bitzi Baxter on the phone)

Arthur: And tell her that he's not a baby! Nobody believes in spaceships!

D.W.: I saw flashing lights from one today.

Jane: Honey, that was the pizza shop sign!

Bitzi's Office 1[edit]

(The phone rings in Bitzi's office, she answers it)

Bitzi: Hello?

House 4[edit]

Jane: Hi, Bitzi, I'm calling about Arthur's sleepo..... Yeah, well..... What? Yes, I..... Uh huh...... (hangs up) She said yes!

Arthur: Yes! Way to go, Mom! Alright! (excitedly runs up to his room)

D.W.: If I spent all night in a tent, I'd definitely see a spaceship.

Buster's Apartment 1[edit]

(Buster is being tucked in by her mother later that night)

Bitzi: You sure you won't be scared?

Buster: Absotively Posilutely.

Bitzi: Good night, Buster.

Buster: (yawns) Good night.

Dream Sequence 1[edit]

(Buster arrives at the sleepover and sees Arthur and The Brain in spacesuits)

Buster: Hi guys! I'm here. Hey, cool PJ's.

Arthur: Recto!

The Brain: Unguardable. Unguardable.

(Busters mouth and eyes come out of his body like a SpongeBob Squaurepants cartoon)

Buster: (screams) You guys are aliens!

Buster: (wakes up) That was scary.

Dream Sequence 2[edit]

(The Brain is sleeping in his room. Now he dreams that a spaceship crash landed on Arthur's backyard. He checks out what's wrong with the ship as two aliens watch him.)

Brain: Here's the problem, your geothermic sequencer needs calibration.

(Brain continues sleeping in real life)

Dream Sequence 3[edit]

(Arthur tosses and turns in his sleep. In his dream sequence, he, the Brain, and Buster are roasting marshmallows on a campfire. Suddenly, D.W. comes along.)

D.W.: Arthur, Mom and Dad say that you have to let me come to your sleepover.

Arthur: (wakes up screaming)

(Jane and David, in their bedroom, get startled over Arthur's screams)

Jane: I knew he'd have nightmares about all this talk of spaceships!

Backyard 5[edit]

(The next day, David sets up Arthur's tent. Then, Pal opens the door and Arthur brings out a portable TV.)

David: Arthur! You can't bring that camping!

Arthur: It's okay, I have an extra long extension cord.

David: Wouldn't you guys rather look up at the stars? Trade cool stories?

Arthur: I guess.

(David puts the TV back inside. Meanwhile, D.W. spies on Arthur with her binoculars)

D.W.: How do we know if he's our real Dad? Not an alien who took over his body!

David: D.W., it's time to clean up the mess in your room!

D.W.: But Dad, I'm looking for UFOs!

David: Now! One, Two!

(D.W. goes back inside the house)

Arthur: Sounds like the real Dad to me.

Backyard 6[edit]

(It is the night of the sleepover and Buster and The Brain have arrived)

Arthur: Here it is!

Brain: (yawns) the great outdoors!

Buster: Wouldn't the TV reach out here?

Arthur: My Dad says we don't need TV because we have the stars and stuff.

(D.W. runs outside, but Arthur denies her access to the sleepover)

Arthur: D.W., no! You aren't invited!

D.W.: Why not?

Arthur: Because.

D.W.: Because why?

Arthur: Because, because.

D.W.: Because, because, why?

Arthur: Because because because.

D.W.: Because because because, Why?

Arthur: Because because because because because... you'd get scared of the dark.

D.W.: No I wouldn't.

Arthur: Yes you would!

Brain: Who do you think's going to win?

Jane: D.W., come inside!

D.W.: But Mom, spaceships!

Jane: D.W.!

D.W.: Oh okay!

(The boys cheer and laugh)

D.W.: But if Earth gets conquered, don't blame me.

House 4[edit]

(Back in the house, Arthur looks in the drawer for a flashlight)

Arthur: That flashlight was here before.

D.W.: You don't need a flashlight. It's a full moon.

Brain: Don't worry, I brought my lantern and extra batteries.

Arthur: Let's go then, it's getting late!

D.W.: If you see any huge powerful hungry shark tooth man-eating aliens, would you take a picture for me, please?

Brain: I, uh, I got to go.

D.W.: (had the flashlight the whole time)

Backyard 7[edit]

(The boys push and shove in their tiny tent due to its size)

Buster: The tent looked a lot bigger from the outside.

Arthur: Maybe if we all sit down.

(They all sit and unzip the tent, hanging their bare feet outside)

Brain: Much improved!

(Inside the tent, the boys play card games)

Brain: Got em, Got em, Need him! Got em!

(Buster eats snacks)

Buster: Mmm! (accidentally eats a card)

Arthur: Buster, pass the chips!

Buster: There's none left. (startled, hears a noise) Shhhh...

(The tent slowly zips up)

Buster: Whatever it is, it has flippers.

(The boys scream, but it's David.)

David: Okay guys, bedtime. Into your sleeping bags.

(Continue to push and shove, then the ends of their sleeping bags stick out of the tent. The three boys are snug in their sleeping bags)

Brain: Time to tell ghost stories!

Buster: Uh, why don't we play sloppy sixes instead?

Arthur: W-what's that?

Buster: It's this super cool game where...

Arthur: No, That!

(A light flies around)

Brain: I don't hear any footsteps.

Buster: Because it's not a person, it's a spaceship Alien!

(The boys scream, but their tent collapses)

D.W.: (giggles)

Arthur: I know where that "spaceship" came from. Planet D.W.!

House 5[edit]

D.W.: (laughs) You too scared to stay outside?

Arthur: No, I just wanted to give you your camera back. We're going to sleep.

David: D.W., Arthur? Go to Bed!

D.W.: Mua ha ha ha!

Backyard 8[edit]

(Buster and The Brain are fixing the tent)

Arthur: Okay, she'll be asleep soon! Now we'll need some things.

(The boys sneak into the garage and grab some materials. Then, they rush back to the tent)

House 6[edit]

(D.W. is asleep in her bedroom. Suddenly, an alien pops up by her window.)

D.W.: (wakes up and gasps) Mom, Dad, Aliens! (takes a picture)

David: There's nothing there.

D.W.: Sorry, I must've dreamed it.

Backyard 9[edit]

(D.W. furiously enters the tent)

D.W.: I hope you don't think you fooled me. Because you didn't fool me at all.

Brain: It seems she's unmasked our little charade, Arthur.

(strange beeping)

Buster: W-what's that?

D.W.: C-c-could it be?

(She sees the UFO in the sky)

D.W.: UFO! UFO! I'm Rich! I'm Rich! I'm a wealthy child!

(The UFO descends)

D.W.: It's landing, it's landing here! (she picks up the UFO and realizes it's fake) Huh?

(The boys laugh at D.W.)

Arthur: We fooled you, Admit it!

D.W.: Okay, okay, I admit it...

(The boys cheer, but D.W. disappointedly walks back to the house)

(Brain Buster and Arthur look at themselves and release their folly)

Arthur: Okay, D.W., you can stay with us.

D.W.: Really? Thanks! (runs back into the tent)

(The four play Go Fish)

Buster: Go Fish!

D.W.: This is boring. I'm going to bed.

(The tent unzips and the boys' bare feet hang out of the tent again)

Buster: (yawns) This isn't boring, is it?

Arthur: No way! Give me all your threes.

Brain: Go Fish!

(END)
