Summary
D.W. checks into the hospital for an ear operation.
Plot
The episode opens up at the preschool, where D.W. can't hear the teacher say that it's time for storytime. Later at her house, she can only hear Mary Moo Cow if she turns it up really loudly or stands right beside the TV.
D.W. goes to the Doctor, where the doctor says she has fluid build-up in her ears, which stop her from hearing things properly, and she has to get an operation to insert tympanostomy tube to drain them. Arthur starts being nice to D.W. because she is being so brave about it. But D.W. doesn't know if she's brave enough. She gets her checkup the day before the surgery and learns a little more about the hospital. On the day of the surgery she doesn't know if she's brave enough. But she realizes it's ok to be scared and goes through with the operation. After she's put to sleep she has a dream that she is a superhero with big ears. When she wakes up, she realizes she was brave enough after all.

Episode connections
- Arthur's lucky pencil from the episode "Arthur's Lucky Pencil" appears again. However, unlike in "Sue Ellen Gets Her Goose Cooked," where it is a small pencil in a plastic bag with its shavings, it is a full size pencil.
