Ziggy Marley
- See also: "Believe in Yourself"
David Nesta "Ziggy" Marley (Born October 17, 1968) is a Jamaican reggae musician and son of the popular artist of the same genre, Bob Marley. Around 1979, 11 year old Ziggy Marley and his siblings formed the Melody Makers (known more later as Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers) who would preform songs composed by their father as well as alongside him until his death in 1981. Ziggy Marley, in addition to unofficially taking his father's place, would continue to release their own songs and preform publicly until Marley established himself as a solo artist in 2003 shortly after the band's disbanding the previous year.
Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers agreed to preform the theme song for the developing series, Arthur in 1996 after some convincing. Carol Greenwald and music supervisor from CINAR, Jeff Zahn took a plane to Jamaica to record the song that would be titled, "Believe in Yourself" in May of that year.[1] Recording and mixing of the song reportedly took about 15 hours.
Trivia[edit]
- "Believe in Yourself" would be the band's last major title before it's disbanding in 2002.
- In 2017, Ziggy Marley would preform the song again, in collaboration with Jon Batiste and Chance the Rapper for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
