User blog:The Pop Cult Gamer/How Arthur’s Big Hit Could Have Been...

Okay, I go TV Tropes a lot. On their Arthur page, there is a section called “What an Idiot.” What an Idiot means is characters doing things that are extremely unwise and they often have consequences which could have been very easily avoided. Pretty much every show, movie, game, comic, etc. is gonna have “What an Idiot” moments in them. However, Arthur’s Big Hit particularly had a bunch of these moments in the episode. I am actually curious how the episode could have turned out if it were written where the characters thinking in character (in the real episode, the characters were not as smart as they usually are.)

What I am gonna do here is write scenarios of what could have happened if the episode were written if the characters were being more in character.

Scenario #1 D.W. repeatedly messing with the plane

After the second time she asks about the plane with Arthur trying to concentrate on painting the plane. D.W. unintentionally spills the paint canister. Arthur calls Jane to get D.W. to stop bothering him with his making his plane. Jane warns D.W. that the next time she does this, she will get a consequence.

The next scene shows Arthur going upstairs to with Buster to show his plane almost being finished with the paint waiting to dry. D.W. touches it while the paint is still moist. D.W. gets grossed out by the orange paint on her hands running away crying that Arthur “painted her hands orange.” Jane would ask Arthur if he did or not and Arthur would show Jane that SHE was the one would touched it with the paint still drying. He would prove it by her finger prints on the plane. Jane would punish D.W. and have her go to her room. She would discuss to D.W. that she needs to learn to respect other people’s property. The episode could have turned into an episode where D.W. learns to respect other’s property.

Scenario #2 D.W. doesn’t break the plane

Once Arthur is finished with the plane at last and has his imagine spot. Arthur knowing that D.W. would mess with it, would put it on top of his shelf on the wall where D.W. can’t reach it. The episode could have turned into where Arthur tells everyone how awesome his plane is and shows it off to everyone. But one day, it falls off the shelf and breaks. He thinks D.W. did it but she didn’t do it. But later on, he discovers that it actually fell off the shelf on it’s own and that D.W. was truly innocent. The episode could have been about someone seemingly may have done something wrong doesn’t actually mean they did it until there is strong enough proof.

Scenario #3 The plane breaks but Arthur doesn’t hit D.W.

D.W. messes around with the plane, throws it out the window breaking it. When Arthur goes outside to see the plane broken and has his Imagine spot of him falling out of the plane. D.W. tells Arthur if “It could break the sound barrier, falling out of a window shouldn’t have been able to break it?” Arthur says “I told you not to touch it” and Arthur tells David and Jane what D.W. did to his plane. D.W. gets punished and she has to learn to respect other people’s things. It would be the same reason from the first scenario except she would have to do chores to pay him back for the plane which could be a while since she only gets 75 cents as an allowance. That model plane could have been like at least 20 dollars. That would take awhile. If she got an allowance every day. It would take a month for her to get 20 dollars as an allowance.

Scenario #4 Arthur hits D.W., but both get in trouble

Arthur get punished with no TV for a week for hitting D.W. and D.W. gets punished for breaking his plane where she would have to do chores to pay him back for the plane. Which would take over a month to pay him back since she gets 75 cents a day as an allowance.

Arthur’s friends would both think they are in the wrong.

Scenario #5 Binky gets threatened that if he doesn’t hit Arthur, he is out of the club but instead tells his parents or Mr. Ratburn since Molly told him this during school hours.

Binky gets threatened by Molly that if he doesn’t hit Arthur, he is out of the Tough Customers club. Binky would tell Mr. Ratburn and Mr. Haney which would punish Molly, Rattles and that unnamed dog with detention. The same thing would happen if Binky told his parents but Molly, Rattles and that unnamed dog would get grounded. The message of the episode would be to tell someone if you are being threatened or blackmailed.

Scenario #6 Binky hits Arthur, but gets in trouble

After Arthur confronts Binky with his pen he dropped after school. Molly and the dog tell him to do it. Binky hits Arthur after pausing for a few moments. Binky runs away in shame.

Arthur tells David and Jane and they call Binky’s parents. Binky is grounded for hitting Arthur with no TV for a week also and he can’t go anywhere with Rattles, Molly or the dog. Binky’s parents would also call Molly’s mom, Rattle’s mom and the unnamed dog’s mom. And they would get grounded too with no TV for a week and they can’t go anywhere with each other for a week.

The message of the episode would to be not to get involved in other people’s business. In real-life, if you witness another person getting beat up. You are allowed to legally defend that person from getting beat up. However, you are not allowed legally to hit that person if you didn’t witness the attack. You can only legally hit someone in self-defense or if you witness someone else get beat up and you defend that person.

So there you have it, the episode could have gone many different routes with it’s writing. I had a lot of fun writing this and I will probably do other episodes on how they could taken different routes if certain things happened instead? Have a good day everyone and thank you for reading this!
