User blog:The Pop Cult Gamer/A PBS Show You May Remember?
Back in 2005-2007, there was a PBS cartoon that aired along with Arthur (however this show wasn’t on every PBS station.) It was called Danger Rangers. It was a cartoon about 6 anthropomorphic characters and a robot who is the comic relief of the show who helped kids and people in dangerous situations. The show’s premise was to address everyday dangers and give life lessons on dangerous situations.
Early this year, rediscovered the show. Back then when it was originally airing, I never actually watched an episode of it. I would remember seeing bumpers of the show such as “don’t miss the next episode” or have songs from the show after Arthur was over on my local PBS stations.
When I watched an actual episode of it, I completely underestimated the show’s writing. It was on the level of Arthur’s writing it was THAT GOOD. What made the writing so good was it was very informative and it didn’t sugarcoat anything. Many of the kids the Danger Rangers had to rescue often had to learn the hard way and got punished for it. For example, there was a fire episode and this pre-teen called a false alarm as a prank. And then later, him and his best friend were playing with fireworks they found earlier in the episode and the one who called the false alarm accidentally set his apartment on fire. The Danger Rangers had to save them and they both got in trouble with the fire department and the police for calling a false alarm. They weren’t criminally charged in the end due to them being minors and because they admitted that they were in the wrong. But they still had to do community service.
I know Arthur had “April 9th” and had Binky intentionally pulled the fire alarm. However, the episode really didn’t go into detail on why it is dangerous to deliberately pull the fire alarm when there is no fire.
The characters are also memorable and lovable too. Kitty (the second-in-command pink cat) is my favorite character in the show. She’s also the most popular and memorable character in the show too. She’s what you call a “Ensemble Darkhorse” character. Also.....also.......back then when I was a kid at 11-13 years old, I.....I......had a crush on her. I am not sure what exactly what it was? Did I like her because of her personality, her voice (she was voiced by Grey DeLisle) or was it her tail (she has a really beautiful tail)? She also has quite a kickbutt (I can’t say the A word here obviously) design! She is one of those characters that have such cool designs that it makes you enjoy them more as characters!
Unfortunately in 2007, the show was canceled. Even though the show has been highly rated, won awards and has even documented to help save lives. Production of the show ended unexpectedly due to a lawsuit in it’s production studio about contract issues. The plaintiff won and the studio was forced into bankruptcy forcing the show to be canceled. So you guys are probably wondering, “Why didn’t PBS just get another studio to do the show like Arthur after the original Cinar scandal, Cookie Jar and 9 Story?” That I don’t know. But it’s pretty disgusting that they would keep Caillou over Danger Rangers. Caillou is the worst show that has ever aired in the history of TV. EVER! This show is probably why kids today are so messed up. Arthur and Danger Rangers teach kids the right things in life. While Caillou teaches kids that everything is owned to them and throwing tantrums is the way to “succeed in life.”
I apologize that this was off-topic. I was just curious if you guys remembered this show that aired alongside Arthur in 2005-2007?
