User blog:Muppetfan/Chat Discussion Results

As you probably know, our community had a chat meeting May 12, 2012. I figured it would be a good idea to recap what we discussed there for people who weren't able to attend:

1. The main issue to be discussed was whether or not we should disable anonymous editing, so that you must have a Wikia account to edit the wiki. We decided that though we are not completely dismissing the idea, we are not going to do this at the current moment. We are going to monitor the vandalism levels and community growth, and possibly discuss it later on again when we feel the time is right.

2. CJ brought up the topic of what would possibly happen if all of the admins were to go on vacation. We didn't really come to a consensus on this topic. We feel that between the 3 admins, at least one will most likely always be around.

3. I brought up the topic of the Elwood City Times, a wiki newsletter that used to be done. We decided that this is something to be looked into bringing back. I have contacted Annawantimes and gotten info, and will become the new editor of the newsletter. The first issue will hopefully be out next Monday.

4. We talked a bit about new ways to make new users feel more at home. We didn't really decide anything, but threw around a few suggestions, such as adding our own personal welcomes to their message wall, and possibly putting a welcome specifically mentioning the new users somewhere visible on the wiki.

5. The admins are going to work on creating a block/warning policy to follow regarding vandalism, so that the punishments are equivalent in the cases of all users.
