"Retirement" is the pilot chapter of The Adventurs of Seymour Turkel.
Story[edit]
The bell had just rung at Professor Turkel's Anthropology class at the Elwood City Community College. Today he was unusually excited for the ending of the class. He collected his books and ran for the door. He opened the door of the college and ran into Mrs. Schwartz, the secretary of the building in which he taught his class. "Sorry about that," said the professor. "What on earth are you in such a hurry for?" Asked the secretary. Seymour handed her the book she had dropped and said, "Today is the day I am retired." Mrs. Schwartz sighed and said as she walked away, "Boy I sure wish that day would come soon." Seymour shrugged and ran for his bike. He got on and rode to his home as quickly as possible.
He set down his briefcase and took off his jacket. As he passed by, he patted the heads of his cats that awaited his return. He checked for a cat on his computer chair, and saw nothing, so he sat down. He opened the Internet Explorer browser and typed in the URL bar: www.seymourlabs.wikia.com. The professor had begun a Wikia community dedicated to his studies. He had become surprised to find that many professors and schoolteachers used the site as a great reference to their students. He ran his bot account, Seymour Turkelbot, to send a community wide message to each of the teachers that used the Wiki. The message read:
Hello, faithful readers of the Seymour Labs Archives! I am pleased to announce that I, Professor Seymour Turkel, will begin a journey to the Yukon Territory of Canada, as well as Alaska tomorrow to research for my new book regarding the Klondike Gold Rush of North America. Please return to the site in nearly one (1) month to review a fascinating report about my study, and look for the new book which will be released several months thereafter.
— Thank you, Seymour Turkel
He read the message over to make sure it adhered proper grammar and spelling. He saw no problem with the language he used, and he ran the bot. He then went to his bedroom and finished packing for his exciting trip. He then read over his itinerary for the trip, which included several different destinations.
- Elwood City Katzenellenbogan Airport - Boeing Field-King County Airport, Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.
- Boeing Field-King County Airport, Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. - Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Anchorage, Alaska, U.S.A.
- Rent a Car, drive to Skagway, Alaska, U.S.A.
- Travel West to Dyea, Alaska, U.S.A.
- Travel North to Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada
He then sat down with one of his favorite books that he was reading, Jason's Gold, which was a Historical Fiction Novel relating to the Klondike Gold Rush. He had nearly finished the book when he fell asleep in his chair, only to wake up to the sound of his alarm clock at 5:00 AM the next morning.
