Summary: A wonderful 8 year old girl that she thinks she is not Popular searches a way to become the most noticeable person in Elwood City, which later found herself at a position that she never knew could get far.

Chapter 1: The Day

It was a Monday morning at Elwood City when the birds were singing and the sun was rising. Then Suddenly. "BEEP!..BEEP!..BEEP!", Fern's alarm clock went off. Fern opens her eyes and breathes slowly. When she did, she genteelly pressed the snooze button and got up. After getting up, she dressed, packed up her homework assignment from her desk and got out of her room. Fern is walking in the halls of her house and enters to the kitchen. By the time she enters, she sees her Mom cooking and her Dad sitting at the table reading the news paper. Then Fern walks towards the table, places her backpack next to the seat and takes a seat. Fern says, "What's for breakfast Mom?" facing at her Mom. Her Mom says, "Pancakes dear" constantly focusing at the pan. Fern says, "Okay Mom". Then Fern's dad said out of the ordinary, "Oh look, Muffy got nominated for being the most well known student in Elwood City... and being the youngest nominator of all time.". Once Fern heard him say that, she faces down at the table and says to herself, "Why couldn't it be me..." in a sad whispering manner. Then her Mom replied, "What were you saying Fern?" facing at Fern and while handling the pan at the same time. Fern says, "Oh, Nothing... It was just a cough." she replied back.

After Fern's Mom finishes making the Pancakes, She serves it to her husband and Fern. Fern finishes eating it in about 8 Minutes, then takes her backpack, gets up and tells her parents, "I'm heading to school now...". Fern's Dad tells her, "Do well in school honey." while finishing his pancakes. Then her Mom, "Have a great time in school Fern.". After Fern is done listening, she says "Thanks, Bye Mom and Dad." and heads to the main entrance of the house, opens the door and exits out of her house. Then she closes the door and stands for a couple of seconds thinking about how Muffy got nominated. Later, Fern starts walking to school by herself thinking about it. Minutes later, she makes it to school wondering if Muffy is telling the whole world about her nomination. While Fern is heading to the stairs, she wonders again if Muffy would pop out of no where and telling her about the nomination. After she makes it to the last step, she opens the door, and heads to her locker. Fern is walking in the hallways until... She finds a poster of Muffy on a wall. Fern looks at the poster and reads it. After she's done reading it, She heads to her locker and opens it. When she does, a envelope fell out at the top of her locker and landed on her foot. Fern grabs the envelope from her foot and opened it. When she did, she saw a notification letter about the nomination of Muffy. Fern puts back the letter and loads her books to her backpack. While she did that, she was thinking, "I never got nominated for anything or got an award, for sept for the poetry contest that my Mom entered me to a while back..." in a depressed manner. Once Fern was finish loading the books, she headed to class. When she entered, She walked towards her seat, puts her backpack down and takes her seat. Suddenly, the bell rings and all students lowered their voices. Once Fern heard Muffy talk, she listend and faced at her. Fern couldn't understand fully because others were whispering at each other. Once they communicated, Mr. Ratburn made a announcement about Muffy's nomination. Mr. Ratburn says, "Now settle down everyone, we all know that Muffy got nominated from our district school boards and that we will be soon celebrating it in the cafeteria tomorrow night." After he finishes telling the announcement, All the students cheered to Muffy, but for sept Fern. At that day she started out a normal day as usual, Reading Books, Writing Poets, and also trying to complete a book called "The Stars of Wonder". When Fern reread that title over and over again, she was thinking if she could go out in the yard tonight to look at the stars.
