This mango tree is one of two noteworthy trees located in the jungle where Uaica lives, the other being "Kid Heaven."
In the original book, Uaica runs from a group of bullies who tease him, when he comes across a mango tree with other forest animals who eat the mangoes and fall asleep. Uaica eats one of the mangoes and dreams of jaguar men who teach him the ways of the jaguar.
However, as the story ends there, Vicita worries that Uaica is unable to get down from the tree and has a dream where she and Raulito travel into the jungle to get him down. They soon come across the mango tree with Uaica, but he is too scared to climb down. Vicita and Raulito help convince him to climb down and get him to eat a mango, and when he does, he falls asleep at the foot of the tree with the other animals.
