Introduction[edit]

D.W. has spread protective clothing on her bed and checks it against a list.

D.W.: Bike helmet? Check. Knee pads? Check. Bandages? Check. Clean clothes? Check.

Mrs. Read (downstairs): Come on, D.W.! Let's go!

D.W.: I'll be ready in a minute!

She puts on elbow pads, kneepads and her bicycle helmet.

***

Meanwhile, Emily puts on protective clothes in her room. Then she hugs a hippo doll.

Emily: Goodbye! Sorry I can't take you with me. It's too dangerous where I'm going.

***

Emily and D.W. walk down the street with determined looks on their faces. Accompanied by their mothers, they meet in front of the Tibble House.

D.W.: Ready?

Emily: I'm ready if you're ready!

Mrs. Read: Have fun, girls!

D.W.+Emily: Right!

They walk towards the house while their mothers wave. On the front porch, they put on protective goggles. D.W. rings the doorbell. The Tibbles open.

Timmy+Tommy: Nya-nya-nya-nya-nya...!

The girls’ hair and ears are blown backwards. They go inside.

Title Card: Octopus Arms[edit]

D.W. and Emily stand inside the Tibbles’ living room with the twins.

Emily: I brought a brand new game - Tower Of Cows. It's never even been opened. Wanna play?

Tommy: Um... okay!

Timmy: We can't play that! We wanna play Airplane! (makes airplane noises)

Tommy: I forgot! Airplane is the funnest! (makes airplane noises)

The twins run around with outstretched arms while the girls just stare at them. Eventually, they sit down on the floor.

D.W.: I'm glad we came prepared.

Emily looks at a dent in the game box.

Emily: I don't think we'll ever be prepared enough for the Tibbles!

Timmy: Oh, no! I can't see anything! The clouds are too thick!

Tommy holds two pillows in front of the girls.

Tommy: You'll have to make a crashlanding!

Timmy: Oh no! I can't stop and I'm gonna hit those two gasoline tanks!

Tommy: That's you!

Timmy charges at the girls.

D.W.+Emily: Augh!

Timmy: Roaaaar! Crash!

D.W.+Emily: Oof.

Tommy ends up on top of the girls.

Tommy: (laughs) That was a great crash, guys!

D.W.+Emily: Ohh...

Timmy: No, it wasn't! They didn't explode!

Tommy: Oh, yeah! You were supposed to explode! Like this... Ka-bloom!!

Timmy: I can explode better than that! (draws breath) Ka-blooom!!

Tommy: I can explode loudest! Ka-Ba-Blooom!!!

Emily covers her ears with the pillows.

D.W.: Can we play Emily's quiet game now?

Timmy+Tommy: Sure.

***

The girls and the twins sit at the kitchen table. D.W. stacks another cow.

D.W.: Steady... steady...

Timmy: Hey, this is a fun game! I bet I have the loudest cow! Mooo!

Tommy: Mooo!!

The tower falls.

Timmy+Tommy: Yeaahh!!

D.W.+Emily: Aw...

***

That evening, D.W. talks to a doll in her room.

D.W.: You know, Tommy Tibble is okay, but Timmy always makes him get crazy. If only Tommy was the only Tibble. Oh, look! A big red star! “Star light, star bright. First star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I wish - all right?” I wish I could play with Tommy without Timmy being around.

The light turns out to be a helicopter that flies past the house.

D.W.: Aw! I wished on a helicopter! Rats!

***

The next morning, the kids play in preschool.

Girl: Lalalala...

Tommy comes in looking sad.

D.W.: Look! Tommy... without Timmy!

Tommy: Mrs. Morgan, Timmy can't come to school today. He's sick.

Miss Morgan: Thank you, Tommy. Have a seat.

D.W.: Do you realize what this means?

Emily: Yes, that the wish I made on a wishbone last night came true!

D.W.: Oh. I thought it meant you could wish on helicopters.

***

That afternoon, Tommy comes into the twins' bedroom where Timmy is lying in bed.

Tommy: Hey! Everybody in school made you this card! Let's play catch!

He throws a football at Timmy’s head.

Tommy: Don't you wanna catch?

Timmy shakes his head.

Tommy: Okay, let's play Rocky Road!

He starts shaking Timmy’s mattress.

Tommy: Hang on, this is one rocky road!

Timmy looks nauseous.

Timmy: (burps)

Tommy: You're doing it wrong! Come on, play right!

Mrs. Tibble: Excuse me, Tommy, but Timmy needs his rest.

Tommy: Huh?

He leaves with his grandma.

Timmy: (groans)

***

Tommy plays Tower of Cows with the girls in the yard.

D.W.: You did it! You won, Tommy!

Emily: This is a fun game when you don't knock it all down, isn't it?

Tommy looks sad.

D.W.: I feel safe taking off my helmet. We haven't gotten knocked down all afternoon.

The girls take off their helmets.

Emily: And no one screamed in our ears!

D.W.: This is great! Cupcake break!

She takes cupcakes out of her backpack and passes them around. Tommy is about to eat, but pauses.

Tommy: That one should be for Timmy.

He walks away and talks to his grandma at the door.

Mrs. Tibble: Timmy's asleep. He wouldn't want to eat a cupcake now, dear.

Tommy walks back to the girls.

Tommy: But he's gonna want to eat it later!

He throws the cupcake against the window, where it sticks. Timmy wakes up.

Timmy: (gasps)

He sees the cupcake slide down the window pane, then he goes back to sleep.

Timmy: (snores)

Tommy: I thought the window was open. (sighs)

The cupcake falls on his head.

Tommy: (sighs)

He walks away.

Emily: He's so sad that Timmy's not here.

D.W.: Yeah. Let's take Tommy somewhere else, so he'll forget about him.

***

Mrs. Read, D.W., Emily and Tommy go to the Elwood City Street Fair. Several preschoolers jump inside a bouncing castle.

Kids: (laugh)

D.W. and Emily join them.

Emily: Whoa!

D.W.: This is pretty fun. Right, Tommy?

Tommy just sits there.

Tommy: It's okay. It would be better if Timmy was here.

Binky jumps next to Tommy, causing Tommy to bounce high up.

Binky: Whoo-hoo!

Tommy falls down again and makes Binky bounce.

Tommy: Oof.

Binky: Whoo.

D.W.: Aw. Maybe ice cream will cheer him up.

Binky comes down and makes Tommy bounce.

Tommy: Aah!

***

The girls and Tommy get ice-cream from a street vendor.

Tommy: Timmy!

He runs towards a concave mirror.

Tommy: Wha...? Oh. It's only me.

Emily: Nothing works. The only thing that can make him happy is Timmy. And we're just not Timmy.

D.W.: But maybe we could be!

Emily: Huh?

D.W. walks in front of a mirror that makes her mouth look big.

D.W.: Hey, Tommy, I bet I could open my mouth wider than yours!

Tommy: Cannot!

D.W.: Can too!

Both open their mouths in front of the mirror.

Tommy: Wow, that's pretty wide! But I bet I can yell louder than you!

D.W.: No way! Aah!

Tommy: Aah!

Emily: Aaah!!

Tommy: Good one!

Emily: I dropped my cone!

***

Later, Tommy and Emily have a paddle-ball competition in front of the Tibbles’ house.

D.W.: ...50... 60... 70...

Emily: My arm is tired. I quit!

Tommy: You can't quit! Timmy and I were trying to break a world's record! We have to do a million of these!

Emily: Look, we don't have to both be Timmys. You're better at it than me. Why don't you do it?

D.W.: No way, sister! What if we take turns?

Emily: D.W., you're a genius! You Tibble now, I Tibble tomorrow.

D.W.: Deal!

They both lick their thumbs and press them together.

D.W.: Tommy, what else do you play with Timmy?

Tommy: Biplane! It's Timmy's favorite game! It's twice as better as plain plane!

***

D.W. carries Tommy around on her back. He watches Emily through goggles with crosshairs painted on them.

Emily: (makes airplane noise)

Tommy: Enemy sighted at 12 o'clock! Faster, co-pilot, faster! Hey, what's happening? We're losing height! Mayday! Arbor Day! Birthday!

D.W.: Too...heavy! (groans)

She gets down on her knees.

Tommy: This is fun! You guys are really fun!

D.W.: Thank you for flying...DWA. (grunts) Now, everybody off the plane!

***

Later, D.W. and Tommy yell at a Tower of Cows.

D.W.+Tommy: Moo-oo-oo!

The tower collapses.

Tommy: Yeah! Alright! Yeah!

D.W.: (pants)

D.W. looks exhausted, but Tommy smiles.

***

The Read family has dinner.

Mrs. Read: You're going to get half an hour of practice in tonight, because your recital's coming up next Saturday. You remember what happened last year?

Arthur picks his fork off the floor and bangs his head against the table.

Arthur: Ow!

D.W.: I can yell louder than that! Oww!!

The others stare at her.

D.W.: Oh. I'm sorry. It was my turn to be a Tibble today. I Tibbled there accidentally!

***

Tommy and D.W. jump on D.W.’s bed holding their shoes and making shoe prints on the ceiling.

D.W:+Tommy: (laugh)

***

Tommy plays biplane sitting on Emily’s shoulders.

Tommy: Wheeee! Br-r-r-rm!

Emily: (pants)

***

At preschool, Emily finds a fake spider in her locker.

Emily: Augh!

D.W.+Tommy: (chuckle)

***

Later, D.W. opens her backpack and a fake snake jumps out.

D.W.: Augh!

Emily+Tommy: (chuckle)

***

D.W. and Tommy have a paddle-ball contest.

***

Emily and Tommy have a yelling contest.

Emily+Tommy: Aaahhh!!

D.W. taps Emily on the back and they trade places.

D.W:+Tommy: Aaahhh!!

***

Tommy plays cowboy and rides D.W. like a hourse.

Tommy: Yee-ha! Giddy-up! Whoo-hoo! Yip, yip! Yip, yip, yippy-i-ay!

D.W.: (moans)

Emily: (pants)

She crawls to a tree and drinks some juice.

***

Arthur makes himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the Reads’ kitchen. D.W. comes in, still wearing a cowboy hat and scarf.

D.W.: I'm losing my voice. I've been running the last thousand billion hours, and this scarf is itchy! I can't be a Tibble for one more minute! I quit!

Arthur: I thought you were doing it to help Tommy feel better.

D.W.: I wanna help Tommy, but it's just too hard!

Arthur: Sometimes, that's what being a good friend is all about - helping someone, even when it isn't easy. (Arthur starts eating his sandwich.)

D.W.: Yeah, you're right. But it's too hard. I'm quitting! (moans)

***

D.W. and Emily walk to the Tibbles’ house while their mothers wave.

Emily: Well, if you're quitting, I'm quitting.

D.W.: I'm quitting! I am! I am quitting! As soon as he opens that door, I'm saying, "Tommy, I can't be a Tibble any more. I quit!"

Emily: Me too!

D.W.: Why do I feel so rotten?

Emily: Tommy's gonna be really upset.

D.W.: Well, we have to consider our health. We're just not Tibbles! It's like they're a completely different animal! I'm quitting!

Emily: Me too!

D.W.: Okay. Who cares what he thinks? We quit!

She rings the doorbell and Timmy opens.

D.W.: Tommy, Emily and I have decided...

Timmy: I'm not Tommy, I'm Timmy!

D.W.+Emily: You're better?!

Timmy: Yeah, and am I glad! When I was sick, I dreamed cupcakes attacked my room. Come on in! Tommy told me how nice you were when I was sick. He said you played all our games! You guys are the absolutely best friends that ever lived! He said that without you guys, he would just have cried all the time!

D.W.: I feel so rotten for wanting to quit.

Emily: I feel lower than a bug under a brick!

D.W.: I'm glad Timmy's better, ‘cause I could never quit, knowing that. Hey, where's Tommy?

Timmy: Oh. He's sick. He caught it from me. That's why I'm so happy you're here. Now I have friends who play Biplane and Rocky Road and Ambulance and Screaming Cow...

The girls stare.

D.W.: I'll take the first shift.

Emily: Thanks! You're a real friend.

Tommy: Who wants to be a biplane?

D.W.: (sighs) Me... me...

She reluctantly walks to Timmy.
