"The Big Dig" is the second half of the ninth episode in the fifth season of Arthur.

Summary

After Grandpa Dave shows them a secret map, Arthur and D.W. hunt for buried treasure and learn some family history.

Plot

Grandpa Dave is sleeping and Arthur and D.W. are getting upset that they aren't having fun. When he wakes up he tells them about a treasure aside from playing chess. A pirate with bad breath was the most firece pirate to sail the seven seas, but Arthur says there are eleven seas.  Arthur takes the map while Grandpa Dave is asleep and covinces D.W. to take an oath; which she refuses. They find the treasure shoulld be by the tree house, but they can't find it. Grandpa Dave shows and tells them there was no treasure.

  • When Arthur says there are 11 seas he is incorrect as there are more. Not counting the oceans they are 1. Mediterranean 2. Black 3. Yellow 4. Sea of Japan 5. Caribbean Arabian 7. Red  8. Baltic 9. Tasman 10. Arafura 11. Amundsen 12. Weddell 13. Bellingshausen 14. Caspian Sea.  There are many more.
  • The doll head Arthur pulls out of the couch bares resemblence to Grandma Thora's doll Clarissa from Clarissa is Cracked".
