This mango tree is one of the two noteworthy trees located in the Jungle where Uaica lives in, the other being "Kid Heaven".
In the original book, Uaica runs from a group of boys who teased him when he comes across the Mango tree where several jungle animals are eating mango's to sleep. He climbs the tree and eats one of the mango's and falls asleep and dreams of the Jaguar Men, who teach him in the ways of the jaguar.
However, as the story ends there, Vicita worries that Uaica can't get down from the tree and has a dream where she and Raulito travel into the jungle to get him down from the tree. They soon come across the mango tree with Uaica, but he was to scared to climb down. Vicita and Raulito helped convince him to climb down and get him to eat a mango, and when he did, he falls asleep at the foot of the tree with the other animals.
