The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, commonly shortened to "IRIB," is a media corporation controlled by the Iranian government. The organizations holds ownership to all radio and television services in Iran including channels targeted for kids. It also has a streaming service, Telewebion that features 60 Persian television channels and it's shows on demand.[1] Most animated shows aired on the networks are obtained and redubed illegally and without the authorization of the original copyright owner.

Arthur formerly aired on the IRIB television channels, IRIB Pooya and IRIB TV1[2]. In airings, the original audio is toned down to allow persian voice actors to redub the episodes thus meaning there was minimal background music and sound effects other than the intro in which the original english vocals are removed.[3] Due to cultural differences and censorship being more strict in Iran, some scenes are omitted and replaced such as scenes that feature female characters in bathing suits.

Trivia

  • "Arthur" is referred to as "آرتور" in persian airings
  • Due to censorship, the scene where Arthur's family pose for a photo at the beach in the intro is replaced with stock footage from "Arthur's Eyes"
  • In airings of "Arthur's Lost Library Book, the scene where Mr Haney is jamming to music in the library is omitted, this is likely due to the fact that the music he was listening to resembled rock music, which is banned in Iran.
  • The "Word From Us Kids" segment and advertisements for the Arthur PBS Kids website commonly found in U.S. releases are removed in persian airings.
