"The Return of the King" is the second half of the 9th episode of season 3 of the animated children's series Arthur. It originally aired on January 4th, 1999.

Plot

Arthur dreams about himself, Arthur's friends, and Mr. Ratburn being at a medieval fair competing for a trophy against a class from Glenbrook led by Mr. Ratburn's former teacher, Mr. Pryce-Jones. They see doppelgangers During the competitions, Arthur is sidetracked by the sword in the stone and Mr. Ratburn's class fear that Mr. Pryce-Jones may replace Mr. Ratburn if they lose. Arthur is the king because he is the return of the king.

Trivia

The students in Mr. Ratburn's Class are on the left, and the students in Mr. Pryce-Jones class are on the right. Arthur's counterpart is an aardvark, as is Buster's. But Muffy, Francine, and Binky's are rabbits, Fern's is a monkey, George's is a goat, Maria's is a bear, Brain's is a dog, Sue Ellen's is a poodle, and Alex's is an aardvark.

Notes

  • Fern's doppelganger at Glenbrook Academy is a rabbit.
  • If Francine wanted to make Arthur forget about the sword, Arthur pulling it out stopped her.
  • "The Return of the King" could be named after the third book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy of the same name, by J.R.R. Tolkien, even though it is more a reference to a legendary King Arthur.
  • This episode was adapted into a chapter book King Arthur, the thirteenth book in the Chapter Book series.
  • Buster's doppelganger is voiced by Oliver Grainger, the second actor of D.W.
  • Henry the 5th was Muffy's counterparts great-great-great-great-great-great uncle.

Goofs

  • In the maze, when Arthur claims that his shadow is moving, he falls backwards; but in the next few seconds, he falls through a maze wall and tears up the maze.
