Shelley Barnes is Binky 's great grandfather in the 1920s who was part of a circus called the traveling Merlankiey Brothers. The Merlankiey brothers became a bust and Shelley beacame sad. During this time Shelley discovered how strong he was and became the star attraction of the Merlankiey Brothers. He was also smart and helped the Merlankiey Brothers get business. He only appears in What's in a Name?. Binky was named after him, but was later nicknamed Binky.
