"[...] and Mahatma Gandhi, showing no resistance-- passive or otherwise-- to this adoring crowd."
– An announcer in Arthur's imaginary "Heroes of the 20th Century" parade, Arthur's Perfect Christmas

Balloon of Mahatma Ghandi

Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian independence leader known for advocating nonviolent resistance.

On Christmas, Arthur Read imagined a Heroes of the 20th Century Parade in which Gandhi appeared among other heroes as a balloon. The parade's announcer quipped that Gandhi was showing "no resistance, passive or otherwise," to the adoring crowd that had gathered to watch the parade.
