Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 - October 7th, 1849) is an author and poet famous for many poems, short stories, mysteries, and other works.

In "I'm a Poet," Buster looks through a book containing a collection of poems by Poe. He specifically mentions the poems "The Haunted Palace" and "The Conqueror Worm," and also a line from "The Sleeper," "it was the dead who groaned within." The book says "Poe" at the top of the book, and a raven on the cover, referencing the famous Poe poem "The Raven." This book is seen again being read by Grandma Thora in "It Came From Beyond," and also in "Fern & Persimmony Glitchet" in Trident Books, where it has a slightly different cover.

In "The Fright Stuff," Brain mention's one of Poe's famous short stories, "The Tell-Tale Heart," when he, Arthur, Buster, and Binky are trying to come up with a prank to pull on the girls at Muffy's party. Brain's fantasy of this, however, is nothing like the actual short story, as it instead involves a heart shaped candy box with no candy inside of it.
