Datagrams are essentially just DVDs. According to Future Mom, people used to call them "videos". They were first seen in "Background Blues", as the whole episode was actually a flashback recorded on a datagram. Curiously the datagram has an entire episode recorded onto it but appears to have a capacity of only 53 bytes.
