Betsy Johnson first appeared in the episode "Strangers on a Train." She had written in her diary, which Sue Ellen found, that she traveled to a lot of places, and took the train Sue Ellen was on frequently. Sue Ellen had mistaken Betsy Johnson as the Ghost of the Crown City Star, but she is soon revealed as a passenger on the train who is very kind.

Betsy is a cat with a light crème completion. She has wavy gray hair, which used to be a caramel brown. Her current appearance includes her wearing a flowery hat, pink sweater, tan cover-up, khaki pants. She is shown holding green and peach pink decorated purse. She is portrayed as an older-aged woman. She is around the age of sixty-nine to her early seventies. She was stated to be eight years old in the 1930s. Betsy is playful, outgoing, kind, creative, and wise. She always carries salt water taffy with her.
